A Chick-fil-A fundraiser is a Spirit Night: the restaurant sets aside an evening, your supporters mention your group or use your code at the register, and the restaurant donates a share of those sales back to you. That share is commonly 10% to 15%, but there is no national rate, because most Chick-fil-A restaurants are independently owned and operated and Chick-fil-A states that sponsorships and donations for local events are at the discretion of each Operator. There is no corporate donation request form to fill in. You book a Spirit Night, ask for product, or ask for a local sponsorship with the Operator of the restaurant nearest you. The one national program is separate: Chick-fil-A, Inc. runs the True Inspiration Awards, which granted more than $6 million in 2026 in awards of $30,000 to $350,000.

That split is the whole thing to understand before you write anything. Almost every search for a Chick-fil-A donation request ends up on a corporate contact page, gets no reply, and concludes the company does not do this. It does, constantly. The decision just sits with a franchise operator four miles from you rather than with anyone in Atlanta.

Figures below are as published by each company in September 2026, or as commonly reported for programs whose terms are set locally. Restaurant percentages are set by the individual location and vary, so confirm yours with the restaurant before you promise a number to your board.

How do I request a donation from Chick-fil-A?

Contact the Operator of the Chick-fil-A restaurant nearest to the people you serve. Chick-fil-A's own customer support page is unusually direct about this: because most restaurants are independently owned and operated, sponsorships and donations for local events are at the discretion of each Operator, and you should contact your local Operator to discuss the possibility of participation. Most restaurants run their own site with a fundraising or Spirit Night page and a request form on it, and that form is the front door.

Write one page and lead with the ask. Name what you want, which is usually a Spirit Night on a specific date, and give two or three date options rather than one, because popular evenings fill up. Say who you are, how many families you reach, and roughly how many people you can realistically bring through the door that night, since that number is what the Operator is actually evaluating. Attach proof of your status if you have it. Then ask for a named human's reply rather than leaving it with a general inbox.

How much does a Chick-fil-A Spirit Night raise?

Take your realistic headcount, multiply by an average ticket of roughly $12 to $15, then take 10% to 15% of that. Eighty people spending $13 each is about $1,040 in qualifying sales, which returns somewhere near $100 to $155. Two hundred people gets you to roughly $260 to $390. This is why Spirit Nights are best understood as a good use of a slow Tuesday rather than a funding strategy, and why groups that promise their board a four figure night are usually disappointed.

The variable you control is attendance, not the percentage. Every group that reports a strong result did the same three things: they picked a date with something already on the calendar, such as the evening of a game or a concert when families are out anyway; they pushed it through class and team group chats rather than a paper flyer; and they made the mention at the register unmissable by giving people an exact phrase or a code. Groups that treat it as a passive announcement usually clear less than $100.

How do I set up a Chick-fil-A fundraiser for a school?

Schools and PTAs are the most common Spirit Night organizers and the process is the same, with two practical additions. Get the date onto the official school calendar before you promote it, so it does not collide with a game, a concert or a testing week, and get the principal's sign-off on how you will communicate it, since most districts have rules about what goes home in a backpack or through the school email list. Many Operators are happy to send a team member to the school or to bring the cow to a home game, and that visit is often worth more attendance than the flyer.

One detail that matters for booster clubs specifically: a Spirit Night generally does not require 501(c)(3) status, because the restaurant is running a promotion and donating a share of its own sales rather than making a charitable grant to a verified entity. That is not true of the True Inspiration Awards, and it is not true of most corporate donation requests, where the IRS determination letter is normally checked before anyone reads your story. If your booster club is unincorporated, percentage nights and local sponsorship are the two routes that stay open to you.

Does Chick-fil-A sponsor local teams and events?

Frequently, and it is one of the more common local sponsors in youth sports across the United States, but it is an Operator decision every time. What that support looks like varies a lot: banner placement at a field, sandwich cards for a team of the week program, catering for a volunteer appreciation night, a presence at an event, or cash for a program. Because the Operator is buying local goodwill in the trade area of one restaurant, the pitch that works is the one that shows them your audience, not the one that describes your need.

Bring a one page sheet with your numbers on it: families reached, home dates, average attendance, newsletter and social reach, and what each level of support gets by name and price. That is a school and booster sponsorship conversation rather than a donation request, and it is a materially better ask, because it comes out of a marketing budget instead of a charitable one and it renews every year the sponsor gets what they paid for. Publishing your packages with prices attached is the difference between an annual renewal and an annual favor.

What are the True Inspiration Awards and can my nonprofit apply?

The True Inspiration Awards are Chick-fil-A, Inc.'s national grant program, established in 2015. Grants run from $30,000 to $350,000, and Chick-fil-A announced more than $6 million awarded in 2026 across the United States and Puerto Rico, Canada, the United Kingdom and Singapore. Applicants must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in the US or Puerto Rico, or a charitable organization elsewhere that can supply an opinion of counsel confirming it is the equivalent of a US public charity. The awards target Chick-fil-A's stated priorities around caring for people, communities, food and the planet.

There are two ways in, and most write-ups only mention one. You can apply online during the cycle, which for the 2027 program closes on May 1, or you can be nominated by a local Chick-fil-A Owner-Operator or a Chick-fil-A Supply General Manager. That nomination route is the reason it is worth building a real relationship with the Operator who hosts your Spirit Night, and it is another instance of the pattern that runs through this whole category: even the national money has a local doorway.

Chick-fil-A fundraiser vs Chipotle fundraiser: which pays more?

On percentage alone Chipotle pays more. Chipotle publishes 25% of qualifying event sales against a Chick-fil-A Spirit Night's typical 10% to 15%, but it also imposes a $150 minimum in sales before it issues a check at all, and its own guidance puts a typical fundraiser at $150 to $350 net on $600 to $1,400 of event sales. Chick-fil-A has no published national minimum, which means a small turnout still pays something rather than nothing.

In practice the deciding factor is not the rate, it is which restaurant your families will actually drive to on a weeknight and how many of them there are. A 15% night at the restaurant everyone already visits beats a 25% night across town. The sensible plan for a school year is to book both, months apart, and to keep the smaller one for a slow stretch of the calendar rather than stacking them in the same season.

What a Chick-fil-A fundraiser will not cover

Percentage nights, product donations and gift cards all fund things, not obligations. Between a Spirit Night, a Chipotle night and the $500 a year ceiling Target puts on gift card donations, a well organized group might clear $1,000 to $1,500 across a full year of asking. That will buy shirts, stock a raffle table, or cover a trophy budget. It will not pay officials, field or facility rental, insurance, background checks, entry fees, transportation or a coaching stipend, and no restaurant fundraiser anywhere is designed to.

Those recurring costs are what local business sponsorship exists for. A sponsor is not making a donation, they are buying an audience: a banner on the fence, a name on the jersey, a page in the program, a mention at every home event, a placement in your newsletter. Price each of those, publish the list, and approach the businesses whose customers are already your families, which usually means dentists and orthodontists, urgent care, banks and credit unions, real estate offices, car dealerships, hardware stores and home service contractors. It is worth having your treasurer pull the year's deposits out of the PDF statements into a spreadsheet before you plan, because seeing what each fundraiser actually netted next to what a single renewing sponsor pays tends to settle the argument quickly.

On Sponsorships you publish your audience and your packages, local sponsors browse and book you directly, membership is flat and commission on the deal is 0%, so a $2,500 sponsor is $2,500 in your account. It sits alongside the restaurant nights and the corporate giving programs rather than replacing them, and it is the only one of the three that has no window, no cap and no charitable status test.

Amounts, percentages and program terms are as published by Chick-fil-A, Chipotle and Target in September 2026 and are not offers or commitments. Spirit Night terms are set by each independent Operator and vary by location. Confirm every figure with the restaurant or company before you budget against it. Sponsorships is not affiliated with Chick-fil-A, Inc. or any company named here.
