Wondery does not publish advertising rates. Since Amazon reorganized it in August 2025, ads on Wondery shows are sold two ways: host-read sponsorships on its creator-led shows (New Heights, Armchair Expert, Mind the Game) through Amazon's sponsorship sales team on a custom quote, and dynamically inserted audio ads bought on a CPM through Amazon DSP. Amazon's own DSP page says its managed service typically needs a minimum spend of $50,000, and podcast ads on DSP are sold to self-service advertisers and agency traders. So the real question for most brands is not the rate, it is which door you can get through with the budget you have.

This page lays out the routes, what each one sells, the minimums Amazon does publish, and the arithmetic that turns a CPM into an invoice. If you are new to buying audio, our guide to podcast advertising and how to sponsor a podcast directly covers the formats first.

How much does it cost to advertise on Wondery?

There is no public rate card. The old advertising.wondery.com sales site no longer loads, and Amazon's audio ads page, which now lists Wondery and Wondery partner shows as inventory, says audio ads are sold on a cost per thousand impressions, with a managed-service option through an account executive and a self-service option through Amazon DSP.

What you pay depends on the product. A host-read sponsorship on a top creator-led show is a negotiated package: a set number of reads across a run of episodes, often with video placements now that these shows are filmed, and sometimes category exclusivity. A dynamically inserted ad is an impression buy at a CPM, served into episodes that match your targeting. The first is priced like premium talent; the second is priced like programmatic media.

Here are the routes side by side:

RouteWho sells itPublished minimumPick specific shows? What you getBest for

The managed-service row surprises people. Amazon's February 2024 launch note for programmatic podcast ads in the US says the product was opened to all US self-service advertisers and agency traders, and that podcast ads were not available for managed-service accounts at that time. So the $50,000 managed tier is not even the door to Wondery audio; self-service DSP is, and self-service assumes you or your agency can run a DSP campaign.

What changed at Wondery in 2025 and 2026?

On August 4, 2025, Amazon split Wondery in two. Its narrative studio, the shows like Dr. Death, American Scandal and Business Wars, moved into Audible. Its creator-led shows moved into a new Amazon group called Creator Services, which still operates under the Wondery brand. In the same memo, Amazon created a new team responsible for sponsorship advertising across Wondery and Amazon Music, led by the executive who had built Wondery's brand advertising and sponsorship sales, working with Amazon Ads to onboard new advertisers. About 110 roles were cut.

The second change landed in July 2026: Amazon shut down the Wondery+ subscription and the Wondery app, and pointed subscribers to Audible. Wondery continues as a studio known for New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce, Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, Baby, This Is Keke Palmer, and Mind the Game with LeBron James and Steve Nash.

For a buyer, that history matters in one practical way. Any Wondery rate, minimum or sales contact you find on a page written before August 2025 describes an organization that no longer exists in that form. Sponsorship sales for the big creator shows now sit inside Amazon, which means Amazon-scale deal sizes and an Amazon sales process.

How much does a host-read ad on a big Wondery show cost?

Nobody publishes it, so treat any single figure you see as a guess. What can be said with confidence is how the price is built. Host-read podcast ads on independent shows usually run about $25 to $40 per thousand downloads, and top-tier shows sell above that band because demand for a handful of celebrity hosts is far larger than the number of mid-roll slots they have.

The arithmetic is simple once you have a download figure from the seller. A show averaging 1 million downloads an episode at a $50 CPM is $50,000 for a single mid-roll read. Four reads is $200,000 before any video placement, production or exclusivity premium. Category exclusivity on podcasts commonly adds 20% to 30% for a 30-day window. That is why the big Wondery titles are bought by national brands on quarterly or annual commitments, not by a business testing the channel.

Downloads per episodeCPMOne readFour reads
50,000$25$1,250$5,000
250,000$30$7,500$30,000
1,000,000$50$50,000$200,000
3,000,000$50$150,000$600,000

These are illustrative figures using typical industry CPM ranges, not Wondery quotes. Ask the seller for verified downloads per episode in the first 30 days, because that is the number the CPM is actually applied to.

How do I advertise on a Wondery podcast?

Start from the budget and work backward.

With a six-figure audio budget and a named show in mind, contact Amazon Ads sales and ask for Wondery sponsorships. Bring your category, flight dates, target shows and whether you need video. Expect a package quote and a contract, and ask directly about exclusivity, make-goods if downloads fall short, and whether video views are counted separately.

With a programmatic team or agency, buy podcast audio on Amazon DSP self-service. You target by audience and demographics across Amazon's owned and partner inventory, including Wondery and Amazon Music, rather than by naming one show. It is efficient reach, but it is not a host read, and the host will not know your brand exists.

With a test budget under about $30,000, skip the network layer and book independent shows directly. The listener of a 30,000-download niche show about personal finance or home renovation can be worth more to you than a slice of a celebrity audience, and you will know the price before you write. Our breakdown of podcast advertising minimum spend shows where each tier starts, and the list of podcast advertising networks covers the middle ground between Amazon and a single show.

Is Wondery worth it for a small or mid-size brand?

Usually not as a first buy. The sponsorship side is built for national advertisers with custom packages, and the programmatic side needs a DSP operator. Neither is a good fit for a brand that wants to hear a trusted host talk about its product next month on $5,000 to $20,000.

The same pattern holds across the other large publishers. iHeartRadio podcast advertising is quoted by a sales team with no public minimum, and Joe Rogan advertising is sold only through Spotify at a reported seven-figure entry point. The big names sell reach at scale; the independents sell attention at a price you can see.

Before you commit to any of them, it is worth knowing where your rivals already spend. A competitor monitoring tool that tracks their ads and messaging will often show you which shows and formats they keep renewing, which is the cheapest market research in audio. Renewals are the signal; a single flight tells you very little.

What is the cheapest way to get a host read like the big shows?

Buy the format, not the famous host. A host read works because a listener trusts the voice, and that trust exists on thousands of smaller shows whose hosts sell reads directly. On Sponsorships, podcasters list their audience size, niche and a price for each placement, and a brand on the Brand plan at $79 a month billed yearly browses those listings, sends a brief and pays the show directly with 0% commission. You can use the studio at the top of this page to preview what a brief and a matched shortlist look like.

If you would rather research the whole medium first, a database such as Podchaser or Rephonic will show you every show and its estimated reach; our Podchaser pricing and alternatives page compares what those tools cost. If you still want an agency to run it, check the margin first with our look at podcast advertising agency fees.

Does Wondery sell ads on its narrative shows?

The narrative catalog, including Dr. Death, American Scandal and Business Wars, now sits inside Audible, and Amazon's head of audio said in 2025 that narrative podcasts are best monetized through a premium subscription model while creator-led video shows monetize best through advertising. That is a clear signal of where sponsorship sales effort goes. If your plan was a host-read sponsorship on a narrative Wondery series, ask Amazon's sales team which titles still carry sponsor reads before you build a campaign around one; programmatic audio on Amazon DSP is the more likely way to reach those listeners.

What should I ask before signing a Wondery sponsorship?

Five questions settle most of the risk. What is the verified download count per episode in the first 30 days, and on which measurement? Is the price per read or per package, and are video views counted or bundled free? What category exclusivity comes with it, for how long, and at what premium? What happens if delivery falls short: make-goods, credit, or nothing? And who writes the read: the host from your talking points, or a producer from a script?

If the answers come back with a minimum well above your budget, that is not a verdict on podcast advertising. It is a sign you are knocking on the network door when the direct one would take you in today.
