Pick a format, set your audience, see what your rate card is worth
Libsyn Ads cost is set by CPM, the price per thousand downloads. Its published rate card puts a 60-second host-read ad at $24 to $26 CPM and a 30-second read at $18 to $22, with dynamically inserted spots at $14 to $22 and programmatic at $12 to $15. So one host read on a show with 10,000 downloads per episode costs about $250, and a $5,000 test buys roughly 200,000 host-read impressions. No minimum spend is published, and campaigns start with a call from the sales team rather than a self-serve dashboard.
Libsyn Ads is the podcast ad marketplace that used to be called AdvertiseCast. Libsyn bought AdvertiseCast and moved it under the Libsyn Ads name in March 2024, so older guides that quote "AdvertiseCast rates" are describing the same business. This page turns its published numbers into what a brand actually pays, then compares that with booking a show directly. If you are new to buying audio, our guide to podcast advertising and how to sponsor a podcast directly covers the formats first.
How much does Libsyn Ads cost?
Libsyn Ads publishes a rate card on its advertiser site rather than quoting every buyer from scratch, which makes it one of the more transparent podcast networks. The ranges below are its own figures. The calculator on the same page defaults to an industry average of $25 and uses one formula for everything: cost equals reach times CPM, divided by 1,000.
| Ad unit | Published CPM | What it is | One spot on a 10,000 download episode |
|---|---|---|---|
| Host read, 60 seconds | $24 to $26 | The host reads your script inside the episode, recorded once and kept in the file | $240 to $260 |
| Host read, 30 seconds | $18 to $22 | The same, shorter | $180 to $220 |
| Dynamic, new episodes | $18 to $22 | An ad inserted into new episodes at download time, removable when the flight ends | $180 to $220 |
| Dynamic, full or back catalog | $14 to $16 | Inserted across a show's older episodes, which still collect downloads | $140 to $160 |
| Programmatic | $12 to $15 | Audience-targeted spots bought across many shows through ad tech | $120 to $150 |
The spread matters more than any single number. A host read costs roughly twice a programmatic spot because the host is vouching for you. Programmatic is cheaper because you are buying an audience, not a show, and you usually do not know in advance which shows carried the ad.
What does a Libsyn Ads campaign cost by budget?
Because the price is a straight CPM, budget translates directly into impressions. Here is what common test budgets buy at the middle of each published range.
| Budget | 60-second host read at $25 | Dynamic back catalog at $15 | Programmatic at $13.50 |
|---|---|---|---|
| $2,500 | 100,000 impressions | About 167,000 | About 185,000 |
| $5,000 | 200,000 | About 333,000 | About 370,000 |
| $10,000 | 400,000 | About 667,000 | About 741,000 |
| $25,000 | 1,000,000 | About 1,667,000 | About 1,852,000 |
An impression is one download of an episode that carries your ad, not one person who heard it, and a regular listener will hear several of your spots over a flight. Plan on frequency, not just reach. Most brands that test podcasts run a show for at least three or four episodes before judging it, because the first read rarely converts as well as the third.
Does the podcast category change the price?
Yes, and by more than most buyers expect. Libsyn Ads publishes baked-in host-read CPMs by category, and the top of the range is about a third higher than the bottom:
| Category | Host-read CPM | One read at 20,000 downloads |
|---|---|---|
| Business | $30 | $600 |
| Health and Fitness | $27 | $540 |
| Technology | $26 | $520 |
| Education | $26 | $520 |
| Fiction | $24 | $480 |
| Comedy, Science, Society and Culture | $23 | $460 |
| Games, Leisure | $22 | $440 |
Business listeners cost the most because B2B advertisers compete hardest for them and a single customer is worth more. If you sell software to small companies, expect to pay the $30 end. A consumer brand that fits comedy or leisure audiences gets the same read for about 25% less.
Is there a Libsyn Ads minimum spend?
Libsyn Ads does not publish one. Its advertiser site sends you to a sales form and says a specialist will contact you within 24 hours, so the effective minimum is whatever that conversation sets. In practice campaigns are commonly booked from around $2,500, so plan for a managed buy sized in the thousands rather than hundreds, because a sales team, trafficking and reporting have to be paid for out of the CPM. If you want a hard published floor, the self-serve routes are clearer: AudioGo, SiriusXM's platform, starts at $250, and our podcast advertising minimum spend guide lists the floor at every major network.
Is Libsyn Ads cheaper than Acast, Spotify or SiriusXM?
On published host-read rates, Libsyn Ads sits in the same band as the other big networks. The real differences are in who sells the ad and how much control you get over which shows run it.
| Route | Published starting price | How you buy | Show-level control |
|---|---|---|---|
| Libsyn Ads | $24 to $26 CPM host read, $12 to $15 programmatic | Sales team | High on host reads, low on programmatic |
| Acast | From $15 CPM pre-recorded, $25 host read | Self-serve or sales | Medium, targeting categories |
| SiriusXM and AudioGo | $250 self-serve, $10,000 direct IO | Self-serve or sales | Low self-serve, high direct |
| Booking a show directly | The host's own listed price per read | Message the host | Total, you pick every show |
Our breakdowns of Acast advertising cost and SiriusXM podcast advertising cost go through each of those in the same detail. If podcasts are one line in a wider paid plan and you want to compare a podcast CPM against search and social spend before you commit, an AI media buyer that plans campaigns from a budget can model the other channels side by side.
What costs sit on top of the Libsyn Ads CPM?
The CPM covers delivery. A few things can add to the bill or change what you get for it:
- Production. Host reads are recorded by the host from your brief, so there is usually no studio cost. Pre-produced dynamic and programmatic spots need a finished audio file, which you supply.
- Category premium. As the table above shows, business and health audiences run $27 to $30 against a $25 average.
- Exclusivity. Asking a host to keep competitors out of the show for a period is a negotiation, and it costs extra wherever you buy.
- Tracking. Promo codes and vanity URLs are free. Pixel-based attribution may come from a separate measurement vendor.
Is Libsyn Ads worth it for a small brand?
It is worth it when you want a network to plan and traffic a multi-show buy for you, and you are happy to let it choose shows within a category. It is a weaker fit when your budget is a few thousand dollars and your bet is that two or three specific hosts will sell your product. In that case most of the value is in picking the shows, and a managed network spreads your money across shows you did not choose.
That is the case for buying direct. On Sponsorships' podcast advertising marketplace, independent podcasters publish their downloads per episode and their price per read, so you see the exact show and the exact number before you spend anything. You message the host, agree the read and pay them directly. The Brand plan is $49.50 a month billed yearly or $99 month to month, with 0% commission on what you pay creators, so a $5,000 quarter of reads keeps all $5,000 working on audience.
How do you advertise on Libsyn Ads?
Go to the Libsyn Ads advertiser site, use Talk to Sales, and a podcast ad specialist contacts you within a day. Bring three things to that call: your target listener, your budget for the first flight and the outcome you will judge it on, whether that is promo code redemptions, site visits or sign-ups. Ask which shows a host-read package would actually run on, because that list is the difference between a test you can learn from and one you cannot. Then price the same shows direct before you sign, and check how they compare with other podcast sponsorship marketplaces.
