SparkLoop pricing depends on which side you are on. Publishers join the Partner Network free and earn typically $2 to $7 per confirmed subscriber they refer, minus a 20% commission plus 3.5% in fees. Newsletters buying growth pay per confirmed subscriber, with SparkLoop's pricing guide listing the Optimized plan from a $100 monthly budget and the managed Custom plan from $2,000 a month. Upscribe, the recommendation widget, and free swaps between newsletters cost nothing.
That makes SparkLoop one of the few growth tools with no subscription at all. What you pay or keep is set by referral volume. This page turns the published numbers into what a newsletter actually earns or spends per month, then compares recommendation income with selling sponsorship slots directly. If you are pricing your own ad inventory at the same time, our guide to newsletter sponsorship rates by niche covers the CPM bands.
How much does SparkLoop cost?
SparkLoop costs nothing to join on either side. It makes money by taking a cut of the referral payments that flow through it. The table below is built from its own help center and Partner Network page.
| Product | Who uses it | Published price | How you are charged |
|---|---|---|---|
| Partner Network (earn) | Publishers recommending other newsletters | Free to join, no monthly fee | 20% commission plus 3.5% fees taken from what you earn |
| Paid recommendations, Optimized | Newsletters buying subscribers | From $100 a month minimum budget | Per confirmed subscriber, after the screening period |
| Paid recommendations, Custom | Larger growth budgets | From $2,000 a month minimum budget | Per confirmed subscriber, with a dedicated account manager and custom screening |
| Free recommendations | Any two newsletters swapping | Free | No money changes hands |
| Upscribe, Offers Hub, Signup Flow | Publishers | Free | Included tools |
| Referral Program (legacy) | Existing customers only | Closed to new users | No longer sold |
One inconsistency is worth knowing before you budget. The current pricing guide gives the self-serve Optimized plan a $100 a month floor, but an older help article on spend caps still says the minimum monthly cap is $2,000. Third-party reviews quote both. If you are planning a small test, confirm the floor on your own account before you commit a month of spend to it.
How much does SparkLoop pay publishers?
SparkLoop says paid recommendations typically pay $2 to $7 per confirmed referral, depending on the newsletter you recommend, and its Partner Network page puts what brands pay at $2 to $20 per new subscriber. Offers, a separate format for products rather than newsletters, pay from $2 to over $200 per conversion. A referral only counts once the reader stays subscribed past the screening window, so unconfirmed signups pay nothing.
The cut comes out of your side. Taking the 20% commission and the 3.5% fees together, you keep roughly 76 cents of each gross dollar, so a $4 referral is worth about $3.06 to you. Here is what that looks like at a few referral volumes. The volumes are illustrative, because your result depends on how many readers see the widget and how well the recommended newsletters fit them.
| Confirmed referrals a month | Gross at $3 each | You keep at about 76.5% | Gross at $6 each | You keep at about 76.5% |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 50 | $150 | $115 | $300 | $230 |
| 150 | $450 | $344 | $900 | $689 |
| 400 | $1,200 | $918 | $2,400 | $1,836 |
| 1,000 | $3,000 | $2,295 | $6,000 | $4,590 |
Referral income scales with new signups, not with the size of the list you already have. A 30,000-subscriber newsletter whose growth has slowed refers fewer readers than a 5,000-subscriber one growing fast, because the widget shows at signup. That is the structural limit of recommendation income, and it is why it works best as a second revenue line rather than the main one.
Is SparkLoop worth it for a newsletter?
For most publishers, yes as an add-on, because joining is free and the widget sits on a page readers already see. The cost is not money but attention. Every reader you send to another newsletter at signup is a reader whose first click went somewhere else, so it pays to recommend a few close fits rather than everything that pays the most.
Compare it with what the same audience earns from one sponsor. Direct newsletter sponsorships for consumer and lifestyle lists run about $25 to $70 CPM per thousand subscribers. A 10,000-subscriber list at $40 CPM prices a primary slot at $400 a send, so four weekly sends bring in $1,600 a month, with no platform cut if the sponsor pays you directly. To keep the same $1,600 through SparkLoop at $3 gross per referral, after its cut, the same newsletter would need to confirm about 700 referrals a month. Recommendations pay on growth. Sponsorships pay on the audience you already have, every week.
The two do not compete. A newsletter can run recommendations at signup and sell a primary slot in every issue. The newsletters that earn most from their list usually do both, and they sell the sponsorship at a published rate so advertisers can book without a week of email. That is the job of a newsletter sponsorship listing with your audience and price per slot on it.
SparkLoop vs beehiiv Boosts
beehiiv Boosts is the closest equivalent inside one platform. A newsletter sets a price per subscriber, other beehiiv publishers recommend it, and beehiiv takes a 20% fee that is already subtracted from the offer you see. beehiiv's own example is a $1 offer that shows referrers $0.80. SparkLoop works across Kit, beehiiv, Mailchimp and other platforms, takes 20% plus 3.5% in fees, and adds the managed Custom tier for big budgets.
| Point of comparison | SparkLoop | beehiiv Boosts |
|---|---|---|
| Platform | Works with most email platforms | beehiiv newsletters only |
| Cut on publisher earnings | 20% commission plus 3.5% fees | 20%, built into the displayed offer |
| Typical pay per referral | $2 to $7 | Set by each advertiser |
| Buyer minimum | From $100 a month Optimized, $2,000 Custom | Set by your deposit |
If your newsletter is on beehiiv, it is worth reading how its ad network pays as well, since it calculates CPM on unique opens rather than subscribers. Our breakdown of beehiiv ad network payouts works through the numbers.
How much does it cost to buy subscribers on SparkLoop?
You set a price per subscriber and pay only for readers who stay subscribed past screening. At the $2 to $20 range SparkLoop publishes for what brands pay, 1,000 confirmed subscribers cost $2,000 at the low end and $20,000 at the top. Consumer newsletters tend to sit at the lower end and B2B newsletters at the higher end, because a business reader is worth more to a sponsor later.
| Price per confirmed subscriber | Cost of 500 subscribers | Cost of 1,000 | Cost of 5,000 |
|---|---|---|---|
| $2 | $1,000 | $2,000 | $10,000 |
| $3.50 | $1,750 | $3,500 | $17,500 |
| $6 | $3,000 | $6,000 | $30,000 |
When you hit your monthly spend cap, SparkLoop removes your newsletter from partner widgets until you raise the budget or the month resets. Cap resets happen before the 1st of the month, offset by the screening window, because referrals made in the last days of a month are still pending.
Recommendations deliver one subscriber at a time from the bottom of someone else's signup form. The other way to buy readers is a sponsored slot in a newsletter whose audience matches yours, where you pay once per send and readers subscribe from the ad. Paid growth also stresses your sending reputation, since a surge of low-intent signups lowers engagement; before a big push it is worth running an email blacklist check on your sending domain so a deliverability problem does not eat the subscribers you paid for.
Who should use SparkLoop, and when a sponsorship marketplace fits better
SparkLoop suits a newsletter that is growing and wants a free second revenue line at signup, or a newsletter with a growth budget that wants to pay only for confirmed readers. It is not a way to sell your existing audience to advertisers. A podcast, a YouTube channel or an event cannot use it at all.
If you want sponsors paying for the readers you already have, list your newsletter with a price per slot, your subscriber count and your open rate on Sponsorships, so brands with budget find you and book directly. Creators pay a flat membership and keep 100% of every deal, with 0% commission. If you are a brand buying placements across many newsletters, the Brand plan lets you search listings by audience and budget and book each one at its published rate. Our page on newsletter ad networks and how they compare sets out the other routes.
The short version
SparkLoop has no subscription. Publishers earn $2 to $7 per confirmed referral and keep about 76% of it after the 20% commission and 3.5% fees. Buyers pay per confirmed subscriber from a $100 monthly budget on Optimized or $2,000 on Custom. It is a good add-on for a growing newsletter and a poor substitute for selling sponsorships, which earn on the whole list every issue.
